Oxford Street
Formerly the Foy and Gibson textile factory in Collingwood, a heritage listed building, Sheringham converted a section of this warehouse space into a stunning three-level apartment inspired by the Paris Opera.
A rich palette of materials was combined to create a textural and engaging series of spaces – modelled on the theatrical ideals of “front of house” and “back of house”. Bathing becomes a public event of sorts – on the balcony overlooking the living area and kitchen. Dark spaces for sleeping and study, and plenty of mirror to reflect light and views.
This project was a shortlisted finalist in the Australian Institute of Architects Residential alterations and additions competition 2013.
